2 log fires, great beer & just a few hundred yards from my house (handy). Lovely Thai food & a good bar menu. My wife just had a very nice steak & trimmings for £8. Highly recommended.

If you need to get your boat from the lower part of the canal up to the upper part, the lock is a very good way to do it. And it works the other way round too! Chinooks are not always practical.
